GEX Heatmap — frequently asked questions
Is the GEX Heatmap free? Do I need an account?
The GEX Heatmap is a public page you can view without logging in, showing the first several strikes per ticker for free. Deeper strike coverage and the real-time full options chain require an Essential or higher subscription; the live terminal lives at HuntingFlow.
Which tickers does it cover, and how often does it update?
Equity indices (SPY / QQQ / SPX) are delayed roughly 30 minutes. A status badge at the top shows whether data is live (green) or delayed (amber).
How do I read the heatmap?
Darker cells mark strikes where dealer gamma concentrates. The Call Wall is the heaviest call-gamma strike (often resistance), the Put Wall is its put-side mirror (often support), and Zero Gamma is the flip level where dealers switch from suppressing to amplifying volatility.
What is the difference between a long-gamma and short-gamma regime?
Above Zero Gamma the market is usually in a long-gamma regime — dealers sell rallies and buy dips, so volatility is dampened and ranges favour mean-reversion. Below it the regime is short-gamma — dealers chase price, amplifying volatility and favouring breakout or trend setups.
